In one of the great unmentioned effects of the earthquake in Haiti, women and young girls are suffering a rising number of rapes and sexual assaults, according to leading aid agencies. So widespread are the reports – and they include the rape of a girl of 12 by her rescuer after she was pulled out from the rubble – that emergency measures are now being taken.

Displaced men and women patrol some camps with makeshift arms to ward off attackers; girls wear jeans under their skirts for protection if they go out after dark; temporary women-only health centres are being set up; and NGOs try to deliver aid to dangerous neighbourhoods where women are too scared to go out in search for food.

Sarah Spencer, gender-based violence co-ordinator for the International Rescue Committee (IRC), who arrived in Port-au-Prince two weeks ago, said: "Violence against women was a problem in Haiti before this crisis. Now, women and girls are dramatically more vulnerable to attack. The humanitarian community focuses on food, water and shelter, understandably, but this is at the sake of protection for women. Criminal gangs have regrouped; security is poor; people are sleeping in the streets, too frightened to go inside or else in crowded, unlit camps, surrounded by strangers. Many women have been left without male protection because their husbands or brothers were killed. All of this means the risk to women in post-disaster Haiti have elevated dramatically."

The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders.

They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi.

"We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said.

Mr Alifi, of Hai Malakal in Upper Nile State, told the Juba Post newspaper that he heard a loud noise around midnight on 13 February and immediately rushed outside to find Mr Tombe with his goat.

"When I asked him: 'What are you doing there?', he fell off the back of the goat, so I captured and tied him up."

Mr Alifi then called elders to decide how to deal with the case.

"They said I should not take him to the police, but rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife," Mr Alifi told the newspaper.

A US citizen working as an editor for a the Palestinian news agency Maan is appealing against Israel's refusal to allow him entry at Tel Aviv airport.

Jared Malsin has been detained since he returned from a holiday in Prague on Tuesday evening, his colleagues said.

Israeli security officials said security concerns had arisen when he was questioned, and the Interior Ministry had refused him entry.

Maan said a court hearing due on Thursday has been postponed to Sunday.

It said the decision could "only be explained as a retaliatory measure for his reporting on Palestine".

Mr Malsin, who Maan says is Jewish, is the English language editor for the news agency.

Migrant workers infiltrating through the border with Egypt are jeopardizing Israel's Jewish and democratic nature, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, adding that those workers were also causing salaries in the country to drop to "third world" rates.

Earlier this month, Netanyahu reportedly ordered the construction of a fence along portions of Israel's border with Egypt at a cost of NIS 1.5 billion, in an attempt to stem the infiltration of migrant workers as well as of terrorist elements into Israel.

Netanyahu's comments came just as released gag order revealed Thursday that special Israel Police investigations unit arrested an Ethiopian citizen and two Eritrean citizens suspected of collaborating with Egyptian gangs in kidnapping African refugees who tried to infiltrate the border with Israel.

The gangs allegedly extorted the families of the African citizens and asked for a ransom in exchange for their release.

A special unit has been conducting the investigation in recent months in which the gangs were discovered to be working with collaborators inside Israel.

Author, investor and longtime Wall Street observer James Dale Davidson says our government is lying to us: There is no genuine economic recovery happening.

“I think what we have seen ... is a simulated recovery which has been generated by the government faking it in a lot of different ways," putting out what he calls statistical falsehoods on economic numbers "to make it seem that the economy is stronger than it is,” Davidson told Newsmax.

For example, calculations for the recently released unemployment figures released failed to include the fact that the Bureau of Labor Statistics had undercounted the number of unemployed people in 2009 by 824,000 persons.

“They’re supposed to be doing a benchmark adjustment ... and if they do, the unemployment rate will shoot up even higher,” Davidson says.

"A lot of the supposed improvements have been faked by the government," Davidson says.

Davidson believes the government secretly used quantitative easing as an excuse to funnel money into U.S. capital markets.

Ever since Haiti took center stage in the media spotlight a month ago, bleeding heart Whites in the United States have been bending over backwards in an effort to do what the media and the religious establishment have told them to do: “Sacrifice what you can for Haiti.” “Send money to Haiti.” “Send blankets to Haiti.” “Send medical supplies to Haiti.” “Adopt Haitian children.” “Pray for Haiti.” And on and on. It all makes for very tiresome watching and listening for those of us who don’t see any long-term value for the White race or Western civilization in the making of such sacrifices.

So when the news broke last week that ten members of an American Baptist group were arrested in Haiti for trying to smuggle 33 Haitian children out of the country, the minority of Whites who retain full control of their senses and faculties looked upon the situation as just another sad example of the psychological disease that the majority of Whites today suffer from. Everywhere, no matter where we look, the able and the fit are choosing to sacrifice themselves for the botched and weak. The very existence of our race today suggests that we haven’t always been hypnotized by misplaced altruism, but there can be no doubt that this psychological illness goes back quite a way.

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) –Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested California could ease its crowded prison system by sending thousands of undocumented inmates to specially built jails in Mexico.

Speaking to reporters at the Sacramento Press Club, Schwarzenegger said California could ease its strained finances by a billion dollars if 20,000 illegal immigrants currently held in the state were housed across the border.

"I think that we can do so much better in the prison system alone if we can go and take, inmates for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal immigrants that are here and get them to Mexico," Schwarzenegger said.

"Think about it -- if California gives Mexico the money. Not 'Hey, you take care of them, these are your citizens'. No. Not at all.

"We pay them to build the prison down in Mexico. And then we have those undocumented immigrants down there in prison. It would half the costs to build the prison and run the prison. We could save a billion dollars right there that could go into higher education."

TEL AVIV - Germany and Israel are intensifying negotiations over a nearly 1 billion euro ($1.45 billion) naval procurement package, a considerable portion of which Israel hopes to fund from a combination of German and U.S. aid.

The Israeli-proposed arms-aid deal - to be discussed Jan. 18 in Berlin at a special joint meeting of the German and Israeli cabinets - involves an additional Dolphin diesel-electric submarine, torpedoes and two German-built warships.

The ships - stretched, 2,200-ton versions of the Meko A-100 - are the Israel Navy's preferred alternative to the U.S.-built Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), which the service rejected last year as unaffordable because of cost growth. At first, Israel lobbied to build the German ships under license at home, with the Israeli Treasury footing initial costs to establish a local warship-building industry.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida voters don't want immigration laws waived to make it easier for Haitians to stay in the United States or immigrate into the country, a new poll shows.

Fifty-one percent of 1,618 registered Florida voters surveyed by Quinnipiac (Conn.) University said they wanted immigration laws enforced compared to 43 percent opposed to them being waived in the wake of the deadly Haitian earthquake Jan. 12.

Voters were opposed, 50 percent to 46 percent, to a decision by the Obama Administration to grant temporary legal status for 18 months to Haitians living in the U.S. when the earthquake hit and divided on allowing more immigrants into the country. Quinnipiac said the survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.

St. Paul, Minn. — Immigrants have been coming to Minnesota for hundreds of years in search of a new life far away from war and persecution.

Some were sent here because of a strong refugee support network, ample job opportunities and a native population that was perhaps more tolerant of newcomers than in other areas of the country. Others followed family and friends who were already established here.

Since the early 1990s, thousands of Somalis fleeing civil war have settled in Minnesota. Official estimates put the state's current Somali population at about 30,000, while community leaders believe it could be as high as 80,000.

But Somalis weren't the first refugee group to land here, and they aren't the last, either. The first major immigration wave took place in the mid-1800s when thousands of people from Germany, Sweden, Norway and other European countries moved to Minnesota. The state's foreign-born population had nearly tripled by 1870.

Some early immigrants were hoping for a new start, others were fleeing poverty or religious discrimination. They established a path to Minnesota that other family members followed in the following decades.

The group are seeking damages for crimes committed during the 1893-1899 war in the northwestern Bunyoro region.

Their lawyer Crispus Ayena Odongo said: "Before this war the population of Bunyoro was stated to be 2.5 million. But by the end of the war there were only 150,000 Bunyoro that could be accounted for.

"The people who were responsible for invading the place should tell us where the rest are."

When the British began their colonial project in present-day Uganda they were received warmly by one the country's largest tribes, the Buganda, according to several historical works.

However, the Bunyoro, the other dominant kingdom in the area, was resistant.

The suit alleges that between 1893-1899 the British, using their own fighters and those imported from Buganda, decimated Bunyoro in an attempt to force the tribal monarch to sign an agreement with the colonial government.

On February 12, the corporate sporting behemoth known as the 21st Winter Olympic Games will open to great fanfare in Vancouver. In a time of economic hardship and government cuts to social programs across Canada, huge sums of public money have been spent to stage this uber spectacle.

Billions of dollars have been spent constructing venues, a new convention center and airport terminal; widening and paving untold kilometers of roads and highways; building a hugely expensive rapid transit line connecting the city’s airport to its downtown; and erecting new hotels to serve the influx of corporate sponsors and spectators.

The hotel, travel, restaurant and real estate industries hope to make a killing off the influx of out-of-town spectators and partygoers. Construction companies have already earned hundreds of millions of dollars during the years of preparation furiously pouring concrete and asphalt. The official line says there will also be lots of long-term tourism dollars to be made, though this has not happened in other host cities.

Some of the world’s largest corporations are Games sponsors, including Coca-Cola, VISA, General Electric, Samsung, and MacDonald’s. Canadian sponsors include the Royal Bank, Petro Canada, Hudson’s Bay Company and Bell. The scale of their participation during the two weeks of competition is such that they have booked entire hotels and restaurants to cater to their executives, invited guests, and assorted hangers-on.

MELBOURNE, Australia (JTA) -- Malaysia’s former prime minister accused America’s "Jewish lobby" of preventing President Obama from ending the war in Afghanistan.

Local Malaysian media reported that Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who ruled the Muslim nation between 1981 and 2003, told the Conference for the Support of Al-Quds on Jan. 21 that AIPAC was hindering two of Obama’s key election promises: ending the war in Afghanistan and closing the Guantanamo Bay prison.

“There are forces in the United States which prevent the president from doing some things,” the Malaysian Star quoted Mahathir as saying. “One of the forces is the Jewish lobby, AIPAC.”

Mahathir, long known for his anti-Semitic views, went on to say that Jews “had always been a problem in European countries. They had to be confined to ghettoes and periodically massacred. But still they remained, they thrived and they held whole governments to ransom.

“Even after their massacre by the Nazis of Germany, they survived to continue to be a source of even greater problems for the world,” he said.

Mahathir also said there was “strong evidence” that the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States were staged as an excuse to wage war against Islam.

A racism row has broken out after a city's taxi drivers started displaying stickers in their cars saying they are 'English speaking'.

Up to a dozen drivers have been showing off the notices bearing the St George's Cross on the back windows of their cars in Southampton, Hampshire.

The small red and white sticker declares the cab is being driven by an 'English speaking driver.' 

But the flags have been branded 'racist' by trade representatives, councillors and racism campaigners who have demanded they are removed.

Taxi drivers have hit back, claiming the stickers are simply a protest to force the council to make sure new drivers can speak good English.

The stickers were placed in the cars after drivers received complaints about the standard of spoken English among them.

There have also been complaints from passengers about drivers using sat navs and over-charging.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - Relief workers began handing out women-only food coupons, launching a new phase of what they hope will be less cutthroat aid distribution to ensure that families and the weak get supplies following Haiti's devastating earthquake.

Young men often force their way to the front of aid delivery lines or steal from it from others, meaning aid doesn't reach the neediest at rough-and-tumble distribution centers, according to aid groups.

The World Food Program coupons can be turned in by women at 16 sites in the capital starting Sunday, and entitle each family to 55 pounds of rice.

U.N. officials say they are still far short of reaching all 2 million quake victims estimated to need food aid.

A Tory MP was plunged into a race row after he accused some ethnic communities of importing 'barbaric and medieval' views about women into Britain.

David Davies, a member of the Home Affairs select committee, was accused of a 'crass misunderstanding' of the issues after his comments over a rape by 14-year-old Asian Balal Khan.

The MP for Monmouth told BBC Radio 5 Live: 'What is it about this young man's upbringing... his community or his parental upbringing, that led him to think that women are second-class people whose rights can be trampled over like this?

'There are some sensitive issues here, but there do seem to be some people in some communities who don't respect women's rights at all and who - if I may say, without necessarily saying that this is the case on this occasion - who have imported into this country barbaric and medieval views about women.'

Khan admitted beating and raping a 20-year-old woman in front of his two friends as she walked home in Stoke-on-Trent.

He was sentenced this week to just three years because of his age - and because he said 'sorry'.

Mr Davies's comments came as he called for the Attorney General to review the sentence.

The 'loup-garou,' which means 'wolf man,' is similar to werewolf legends in other parts of the world, but in Haitian folklore it is a person who is possessed by a spirit and can turn into a beast or even a dog, cat, chicken, snake or another animal to suck the blood of babies and young children.

Haitians fear loups-garous in the best of times and even more since a powerful earthquake wrecked the capital of Port-au-Prince two weeks ago, killing as many as 200,000 people and forcing hundreds of thousands more to sleep outside in vast camps or on the streets.

Some people accused of being loups-garous have apparently been lynched since the earthquake, including a man killed at the La Grotte camp for displaced people on a barely accessible hillside that looks down on Port-au-Prince.

"After the earthquake, the loup-garou fled from prison. He was bragging that he was in jail because he was caught eating children ... During the night he went into the tents and tried to take someone's child," said Michaelle Casseus, a camp resident.

(JTA) -- Indiana University inaugurated an Institute for the Study of Contemporary Anti-Semitism.

Sources at the Bloomington university said the center that opened in mid-January is the second in the United States devoted to scholarly research on anti-Semitism, joining the Yale Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of Anti-Semitism in New Haven, Conn.

Three major research institutes abroad studying the topic are the Stephen Roth Institute in Tel Aviv; the Vidal Sassoon International Center in Jerusalem; and the Center for the Study of Anti-Semitism at the Technical University in Berlin.

The Indiana institute was founded and is directed by Alvin Rosenfeld, the university's Irving M. Glazer Chair in Jewish Studies. Initial funding will come from the endowment supporting that chair.

In the spring of 2011, the institute is set to sponsor a major international conference on the intellectual and ideological sources of contemporary anti-Semitism.

Rosenfeld told local reporters that there is "a compelling need for more organized research and teaching on contemporary anti-Semitism, including its similarities to and differences from anti-Semitism throughout history."

The British National party was warned tonight that it had one last chance to scrap its constitution or face legal action under equality laws.

Its leader, Nick Griffin, was told at a Central London county court session that new rules must be agreed at an extraordinary general meeting to be held next month.

The judgment saw BNP officials forced to rush out letters to members to alert them to the proposed changes.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission, which challenged the whites-only membership criteria last year, said the changes proposed still fell foul of equality laws.

John Wadham of the EHRC said the amended version, which refers repeatedly to "indigenous British", displayed indirect discrimination as opposed to direct discrimination. "It is not that much of an improvement," he said.

Judge Paul Collins said: "I'm going to give the BNP an opportunity to have its EGM and take into account what has been said today and get it right. I do not think there will be another opportunity to get it right. This is it." He also ordered the BNP to pay the £12,500 in court costs relating to the adjourned session.

Bill Gates has made his scholarship fund off limits to white teenagers. The Gates Millennium Scholarship fund is financed by a $1 Billion endowment Bill Gates made in 1999. The fund explicitly denies eligibility to white students.

In 2009, San Bernardino County spent $64 million providing welfare benefits to U.S.-born children of illegal aliens.

According to county records, during a typical month, close to 15,000 offspring of illegal aliens received either welfare payments or food stamps in 2009. Over 11,000 of those children received both forms of assistance.

Assemblyman Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, told the San Bernardino Sun: “This is a huge burden on our state. Obviously, these kids are U.S. citizens and that’s fine. But when you look at it, these parents should have never been here in the first place.”

Raymond Herrera, founder and president of We The People California’s Crusader, said: “The American people are fed up with illegal aliens depleting our tax dollars by overrunning our schools, our hospitals and our welfare system.”

While $64 million more than the county can afford particularly during the current deep recession, it is but a drop in the bucket, when you consider what the entire state of California is paying-out to ‘anchor babies’ and their illegal alien parents.

Two schools of thought have traditionally competed to determine how America should approach the world. Realists believe we should care most about what states do beyond their borders—that influencing their foreign policy ought to be Washington's priority. Neoconservatives often contend the opposite: they argue that what matters most is the nature of other countries, what happens inside their borders. The neocons believe this both for moral reasons and because democracies (at least mature ones) treat their neighbors better than do authoritarian regimes.

I am a card-carrying realist on the grounds that ousting regimes and replacing them with something better is easier said than done. I also believe that Washington, in most cases, doesn't have the luxury of trying. The United States must, for example, work with undemocratic China to rein in North Korea and with autocratic Russia to reduce each side's nuclear arsenal. This debate is anything but academic. It's at the core of what is likely to be the most compelling international story of 2010: Iran.

In the wake of 9/11, the Bush administration judged incorrectly that Iran was on the verge of revolution and decided that dealing directly with Tehran would provide a lifeline to an evil government soon to be swept away by history's tide. A valuable opportunity to limit Iran's nuclear program may have been lost as a result. The incoming Obama administration reversed this approach and expressed a willingness to talk to Iran without preconditions. This president (like George H.W. Bush, whose emissaries met with Chinese leaders soon after Tiananmen Square) is cut more from the realist cloth. Diplomacy and negotiations are seen not as favors to bestow but as tools to employ. The other options—using military force against Iranian nuclear facilities or living with an Iranian nuclear bomb—were judged to be tremendously unattractive. And if diplomacy failed, Obama reasoned, it would be easier to build domestic and international support for more robust sanctions. At the time, I agreed with him.

Sometimes they pick stars whose careers are destined to take off, occasionally they make incredible calls with near-nobodies who later become A-listers, and usually the majority of their picks fade into oblivion. While we'd like to think celeb bible Vanity Fair puts a great deal of thought and planning into its annual "New Hollywood" issue, this year the editors really limited their scope when it came to choosing the next big stars. (Or perhaps they overemphasized the "Fair"? ) Every woman on its new cover is extremely thin and very, very white. Unless Vanity Fair considers one redhead to be diversity, we feel the need to cry foul.

The cover of the March issue features Abbie Cornish, Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, Rebecca Hall, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, and Anna Kendrick. Many, if not all of these women have good reason to grace the Vanity Fair cover, and to be a part of what they have dubbed "the fresh faces of 2010." Evan Rachel Wood has garnered critical acclaim since her Golden Globe-nominated performance in 2003's "Thirteen" as well as loads of media attention from her highly publicized romance with rocker Marilyn Manson. Kristen Stewart was catapulted to fame by the mega-successful "Twilight" franchise and will star as Joan Jett in the upcoming film, "The Runaways,"  while Amanda Seyfried's career was put in motion after her role in 2008's "Mamma Mia!" But WAIT: Vanity Fair already had both Stewart and Seyfried on an August 2008 cover touting "Hollywood's New Wave." And this was also a white-girl-only cover. Were there no promising young actors of color who could have been featured in either issue?

Latest figures from Statistics Sweden reveal that in the last 50 years the number of foreigners living in Sweden or those with two foreign-born parents has risen from four to nearly 20 percent.

A new report from Statistics Sweden (Statistiska Centralbyrån, SCB) reveals there are around 1.6 million foreigners currently residing in the country from a total population of 9.3 million.

Annika Klinterfeldt, SCB population analyst told The Local the numbers are not surprising, with the total now surpassing 17 percent and edging ever closer to the 20 percent mark.

“If we look at the trend over the last 50 years we can see growth in number of between 0.1-0.2 percent every year.

“Back in 1960, foreigners or those with two foreign-born parents made up four percent of the population. It’s been quite high for the last few years and we expect it to continue,” she added.

Israel has submitted its official response to a United Nations report which accuses it and Hamas of war crimes during last year's Gaza war.

The UN Human Rights Council in its report warned Israel and Hamas that allegations of possible war crimes would be forwarded to the International Criminal Court unless they take steps to investigate their own conduct.

But Israel has told the council the country is already doing just that.

Israel's defence minister Ehud Barak says the his country's submission to the UN shows no army has been as responsible, moral or accurate as Israel, even under impossible conditions.

He has dismissed the allegations against Israel as biased.

Hamas has said its own inquiries show rocket attacks into Israel were not intended to harm civilians, but human rights groups have rejected that claim.

Members of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian Democrats (CDU), their Bavarian sister party the CSU, and opposition centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) want the right-wing extremists off the country’s political playing field, daily Bild reported on Monday.

“The NPD follows clearly anti-constitutional goals and must disappear from the political landscape,” Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) told the paper. “I am working on a new case for an NPD ban.”

To strengthen his case, Herrmann encouraged the country’s domestic intelligence agency to disengage its top spies in surveillance of NPD leadership. The 2003 ban request reportedly failed because the constitutional court believed that domestic intelligence agents from the Verfassungsschutz could have influenced the actions of the neo-Nazis under their watch.

“For a successful ban we don’t need the information from (them),” Herrmann told the paper. “There is enough material that proves the NPD is an enemy of the constitution.”

SPD member and Berlin Interior Minister Ehrhart Körting agreed.

Swedish far-right businessman Patrik Brinkmann has announced he will pour €5 million ($7.1 million) into the coffers of Pro NRW, an anti-Islam populist party based in Cologne, Germany.

In a Sunday report aired on Germany's public broadcaster WDR, Brinkmann said he fears Germany is becoming "too foreign" and that Sharia law will be introduced in the country.

"However, there are no, or very few, politicians who take this seriously," Brinkmann said.

"That's why I believe that a new right wing (in Germany) can not only succeed, but in five or ten years be as large as the FPÖ in Austria or the SVP in Switzerland," he added, referring to Austria's Freedom Party and the Swiss People's Party, two far-right groups which have enjoyed a certain amount of electoral success.

A high school history lesson left one student in tears. The lesson is about the Holocaust and part of the assignment is to wear the Star of David. However, one parent said it made her daughter feel it was more like the scarlet letter.

Miriam Youngblood is shocked at the history lesson plan she said is unacceptable. Her daughter, a junior at Dekaney High School told her she is being forced to do something that made her feel uncomfortable.

"(She) had to wear a yellow star of David that said "Jewed" on them like the ones our ancestors had to wear during the Holocaust," said Miriam Youngblood.

Proud of her Jewish ancestry, her daughter was in tears and her family became upset. Youngblood spent all Tuesday morning calling school administrators. We called too and got in touch with the Spring I.S.D. Director of Communications. We were told the principal was too busy to talk on camera. Instead we were given a written statement:

"The purpose of the Holocaust remembrance project at Dekaney High School is to commemorate and honor the people who were victims of the Holocaust....Students who did not want to participate in the activity were to speak to their teacher and they would be given the alternative assignment."

Then I see medals, coins, banknotes and letters – all authentic, all from the time of the Third Reich, and all displayed in broad daylight in the first Hebrew city, on sale in exchange for Israeli currency. Each item bears the notorious swastika, the symbol that flashed before the eyes of millions before they were led to their murder.

I am tempted to confront the manager of the stall holders, who allows money to be made from our nation's terrible trauma, but I shy away from the dark corners. One of the traders explains, "I sell antiques that have historic value, and the rest doesn't interest me." He has no qualms about his trade.

After an hour of looking around, I realize that the really valuable items are not even displayed. They are hidden away in bags and drawers, perhaps to keep them from the eyes of the police or passers-by, or because of feelings of guilt.

Perhaps the biggest lesson to learn from the events that have occurred in Haiti over the last several weeks is that any natural disaster on a truly massive scale will be unable to be managed efficiently by the existing System. Although the System managed well enough for the situation in Haiti – thanks to millions of generous Whites, particularly in the United States – a widespread crisis would be beyond the scope of any one government or collection of governments.

Basically, what it boils down to is that there are too many people on the planet. With the population density of the planet being what it is and with millions of people living crowded close together and completely dependent on a civil infrastructure for water and other needs, it is only reasonable to expect that when natural disasters strike, the suffering will hit a frighteningly large number of people.

This population explosion can be attributed to a number of factors, the main one being the spread of White medicine to the non-White world. The result of that mistake is that, while the birthrate in the Third World remained high – with fewer deaths during childbearing – the death rate in the non-White world dropped enormously. So, the long-term effect of us Whites being “nice” and sharing our medical knowledge with the rest of the world is that the planet is literally crawling with people and drowning in human filth.

New documents presented in federal court in Washington, D.C. reveal deep ties (more than was known) between Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Dr. Stewart David Nozette, an American astronomer accused of spying for Israel.

The media here covered his arrest on October 19, 2009 and then interest waned, though the American media are still monitoring the case.

Two attorneys in the counterespionage unit of the U.S. Department's of Justice National Security division, Deborah Curtis and Heather Schmidt, presented documents found on the scientist's computer. One document, titled "Proposed Operations for 2005-2006," referred to the need to carry out "a penetration of NASA," the U.S. space agency.

Another document, according to the prosecution, shows Nozette attempted to obtain highly confidential material by using his high-level security clearance and infiltrating other people's computers.

Other documents mention the names of Yossi Weiss and Yossi Fishman. Weiss is a former project manager and today the deputy CEO of IAI and head of the company's missile and space division. Fishman was the IAI's representative in the U.S. and is today the CEO of ODF Optronics.

Fishman told Haaretz he knew Nozette the way he knew other Americans employed by the IAI at the time as consultants. "We did not engage in any kind of spying activity or information gathering, perish the thought. The relationship was business as usual."

When it comes to hiring staff, there are plenty of legal pitfalls employers need to watch out for these days.

So recruitment agency boss Nicole Mamo was especially careful to ensure her advert for hospital workers did not offend on grounds of race, age or sexual orientation.

However, she hadn't reckoned on discriminating against a wholly different section of the community - the completely useless.

When she ran the ad past a job centre, she was told she couldn't ask for 'reliable' and 'hard-working' applicants because it could be offensive to unreliable people.

'In my 15 years in recruitment I haven't heard anything so ridiculous,' Mrs Mamo said yesterday.

'If the matter wasn't so serious I would be laughing out loud.

'Unfortunately it's extremely alarming. I need people who are hardworking and reliable - and I am pleased to discriminate in that way. If they're not then I really can't use them. The reputation of my business is on the line.

'Even the woman at the jobcentre agreed it was ridiculous but explained it was policy because they could get sued for being dicriminatory against unreliable people.

'She told me they'd had lots of problems with people taking them to court for adverts stating something like "would suit school leaver".'

Mrs Mamo, 48, of Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, runs Devonwood Recruitment, which supplies hundreds of cleaners, caterers and porters to hospitals across the country.

"2009 was the year where the largest number of anti-Semitic incidents was recorded," said a governmental report published ahead of the January 27 International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

"With the start of the operation, a wave of acts of anti-Semitism started across the world," it said of Israel's Operation Cast Lead in December 2008 and January 2009, during which some 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed.

According to the report, the expressions of anti-Semitism consisted of acts of violence, the burning of synagogues, defacing of cemeteries and Holocaust memorials, as well as verbal assaults.

But the report also considered as anti-Semitic acts that sought to "delegitimise" Israel, including some protests against Israeli policies.

"Most of the incidents reflected longstanding and known anti-Semitic ideas, but were extreme, intensive and louder than before... Many of the expressions of anti-Semitism in 2009 created a total link between Israelis and Jews."

Diaspora Minister Yuli Edelstein said in the report's introduction that "it is hard nowadays to tell the difference between anti-Israeli attacks in Europe and the United States, as well as other places in the world, and anti-Semitic attacks."

Iran received information days ago that Israeli and U.S. intelligence intended to carry out terrorist acts in Tehran, the country's parliament speaker said on Wednesday, one day after the assassination of a university scientist.

Washington has rejected Iran's allegations of U.S. involvement in Tuesday's bombing that killed professor Massoud Ali Mohammadi near his home in the Iranian capital as absurd. Israel has not commented on the incident.

Mohammadi was killed in a powerful bomb blast as he was leaving home in northern Tehran for work.

Iranian officials and state media described the slain scientist as a nuclear physicist, but a spokesman said he did not work for the Atomic Energy Organization at the center of Iran's disputed nuclear program.

Iran's influential parliament speaker, Ali Larijani, said a U.S.-based pro-monarchy group had claimed responsibility for the attack, adding it was controlled by the CIA. Iran's Fars News Agency on Tuesday said such an exile group had claimed the bombing in a statement, without saying how it obtained it.

In remarks that will outrage Jews the world over, Bishop Pieronek said that in his opinion the memory of the Holocaust is often used as a “propaganda weapon” by Israel.

The Krakow-based bishop said: “Undoubtedly, the majority of those who died in the concentration camps were Jews, but also on the list were Poles, Gypsies, Italians and Catholics. So do not steal this tragedy in the name of propaganda.”

“But they, the Jews, have a good press, because the powerful have the financial resources - extremely powerful with the unconditional support of the United States. And this promotes a kind of arrogance, which I consider to be unbearable,” Bishop Pieronek continued.

The bishop expressed his opinion that the Palestinians are victims of injustice at the hands of the Israelis.

“Seeing the photographs of the [Gaza] wall we can conclude that a colossal injustice has been committed against the Palestinians, who are treated like animals and their rights are being violated.”

COLUMBIA, S.C. - When things looked their darkest for Gov. Mark Sanford — when he was in danger of being impeached for running off to Argentina to see his mistress — his best insurance policy may well have been South Carolina's lieutenant governor, Andre Bauer.

Lawmakers knew if they removed Sanford, they would end up with Bauer, a fiercely ambitious Republican with a reputation for reckless and immature behavior.

Now Bauer has folks shaking their heads again, after he likened government assistance to the poor to feeding stray animals.

At a town hall meeting Thursday, Bauer, who is running for governor in his own right now that Sanford is term-limited, said: "My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed! You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that."

The record 20 million Americans who collected unemployment insurance benefits last year landed on a safety net that was already deeply frayed.

A historical compromise has left responsibility for unemployment benefits largely in the hands of states, and they have fulfilled this charge with varying degrees of effectiveness.

In a series last summer with public radio’s Marketplace, we reported that only a handful of states had built up reserves sufficient to weather the Great Recession – and forecast a spate of borrowing by states where reserves ran out.

Half a year later, the direst predictions seem to be coming true: So far 25 states have borrowed more than $25 billion to keep benefits flowing after their trust funds ran dry. In many other states the situation is deteriorating fast.

In a CNN interview, Chertoff cited the Detroit incident as “a very vivid lesson in the value of that machinery.” One lesson that he hasn’t drawn, however, was about the unreliability of the security firm which allowed the young Nigerian Muslim without a passport to “slip through” Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

ICTS International N.V., the Dutch-based security firm, was established in 1982 by former members of Israel’s secret police, the Shin Bet, and El Al security. Menachem Atzmon, who holds the controlling shares in the firm, was convicted in 1996 for campaign finance fraud while co-treasurer of the Likud party. The other co-treasurer Ehud Olmert, who was acquitted of those charges, resigned as Israeli Prime Minister in 2008 amid multiple corruption charges.

Although the rapid worldwide expansion of ICTS was no doubt helped by the much vaunted reputation of Israeli aviation security, its record abroad is less reassuring. In December 2001, the so-called “shoe bomber” Richard Reid also slipped through ICTS security at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to board a flight to Miami. And it was an ICTS subsidiary, Huntleigh USA, that shared security duties at Boston’s Logan Airport, where two of the four hijacked planes originated on September 11, 2001.

The gangsters have stepped into the law and order vacuum, notably in the sprawling shanty town of Cite Soleil which they dominated before being locked up following police operations supported by United Nations troops over the last three years.

"Even as we are digging bodies out of buildings, they are trying to attack our officers," said Aristide Rosemond a Cite Soleil police inspector.

The Haitian authorities, already weak and reliant on UN forces, are now crippled by heavy casualties and widespread destruction of infrastructure while international peacekeepers are focused on disaster relief.

Jean-Max Bellerive, Haiti's prime minister, has despaired of the state's ability to tackle a new post-earthquake crime wave sweeping his country's devastated capital.

"The problem is they have weapons so we cannot send the population or just any policemen to capture them," he said.

The morale and strength of Haiti's police has been severely reduced by the loss of experienced officers, killed or injured, leaving recently trained recruits to hold the line.

The director is using the series to expose what he calls lies and biases behind the conventional interpretation of American history and that would include reexamining WWII history and putting Hitler “into context.”

“To talk about ‘placing Adolf Hitler in context’ is like placing cancer in context, instead of recognizing cancer for what it really is - a horrible disease, just as we must recognize Hitler as the ultimate expression of evil,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Wiesenthal Center.

“Oliver Stone has every right to interpret history in an unconventional manner and not follow the script of a History Channel documentary. And yes, it is true, there were many, including American corporations, who helped prop up the Third Reich in its infancy,” he added.

“But we desecrate the memory of the millions murdered when we attempt to place its architect in context. No theory of cause and effect can ever explain away an Auschwitz of how human beings could debase themselves and escort children into the gas chambers,” Hier continued.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday said the assassination this week of an Iranian scientist was carried out in a "Zionist style."

The comments mark Ahmadinejad's first public remarks on the bombing attack in Tehran, which other Iranian officials and media have blamed both on Israel, which Tehran calls "the Zionist regime," and the United States.

Professor Massoud Ali-Mohammadi was killed Tuesday after leaving his home. Washington has dismissed the charge of U.S. involvement as absurd.

"The depth of the enemies' grudge can be seen in the university professor's assassination," Ahmadinejad said, ISNA news agency reported.

"The manner of bomb planting shows a Zionist style and they want to make sure that Iran would not advance," he said.

State media have said Ali-Mohammadi was killed by a remote controlled bomb strapped to a motorcycle. He was buried in Tehran on Thursday, with the crowd chanting "Death to America" and "Death to Israel," state television reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday ordered to construct a fence at a cost of NIS 1.5 billion along two segments of Israel's border with Egypt, in an attempt to stem the infiltration of migrant workers as well as of terrorist elements into Israel.

"I took the decision to close Israel's southern border to infiltrators and terrorists. This is a strategic decision to secure Israel's Jewish and democratic character," Netanyahu said in a statement.

Thousands of African and other migrants have come to Israel through its porous border with Egypt over the last few years.

Netanyahu said Israel would "remain open to refugees" from conflict zones but added, "we cannot let tens of thousands of illegal workers infiltrate into Israel through the southern border and inundate our country with illegal aliens."

The barrier will not be erected along the whole border, and advanced surveillance equipment will help border control officers to spot infiltrators.

Two segments will be built in the plan's first phase, one near the southern city of Eilat and the other near Israel's border with the Gaza Strip.

The Defense Ministry's NIS 1.5 billion plan was favored over a NIS 2.2 billion plan to erect the fence presented by the National Roads Company of Israel.
