HIGHLANDS HEIGHTS, Ky. -- The Northern Kentucky University student newspaper is apologizing tonight for an ad linked to a group that some say promotes hate.
The NKU student run newspaper, known as The Northerner, accepted and ran an ad for a music Web site that sells white supremacist music.
The Northerner's Editor In Chief, Tim Owens, says he did not know the advertisement for Resistance Records was actually for white supremacy music.
Owens says the ad promoting the Web site ran for two weeks in The Northerner, but readers began to complain. He says as soon as he looked at the Web site, the ad was pulled, and an apology was issued.
"We should have researched our client better. Obviously we didn't, we will in the future investigate further when the ad seems kind of sketchy or vague. But it was an honest mistake and we are atoning for it," Owens says.
A retraction was printed on the front page of the paper.
NKU student, Michael Farris, says, "I think it was just a mistake they overlooked. They didn't take enough time to go the ad, see what it was about and research it which needs to be done."
