A Challenge For Debate Instead Of Censorship And Slander

(Editor's note : Below is the communication between myself and the editor of the student newspaper in which our unit placed ads for Resistance Records that has caused the usual suspects to go into a tizzy. This correspondence will include a challenge to those who played a role in getting our ads pulled to engage us in a public debate on any issue within our purview as an organization.)

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know that we were again happy with the response to the ad this past week. I still need to get in there to pay for this past week's ad. I wanted to write to tell you that we were going to hold off another week or two before we run it again, I will write you back and let you know on when. Thanks alot.

Robert

Mr. Ransdell,

We have been made aware of the viewpoints Resistance Records supports. We wish to no longer run ads from your company and do not require any further payments on your account. In accordance with our rate card we reserve "the right to reject or revise any advertisement for any reason, including but not limited to: explicit language and content, false claims, sexism, racism or ageism (actual or implied), philosophical beliefs or any other form of discrimination." Attached is another copy of our rate card, if you have any further questions feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
William Fisher

Hello again,

Well I was quite surprised by the response there. I would be interested to know who "made you aware of our viewpoints". This would be especially illuminating to know as our site has twice since we started running the ads been knocked off line. Intentional mischief of this sort online would be classified as a felony and I would say that whomever complained about the ad might have an idea on who might be to blame for this as this is the typical behavior of those who wish to censor dissident viewpoints. Again if it is possible, I would like to know who complained, but not just for that reason.

As I said before we have had a ton of traffic on the website since the ads started running, when the site has been up that is, we have had a big spike in visitors and also sales. It is not correct to say that all people who viewed the ad and visited our site were offended, we have received feedback from people who never knew that our form of music existed and thought it was something fresh and different. To be fair we received some negative response as well, but that is fine too, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I don't think it is appropriate to try to manage people's thoughts and what they are permitted to view. This is certainly not the job of a newspaper with any semblance of a proper view on free speech and expression. Rational people can decide for themselves what they object to and what they accept. We reject the notion that our ideas are abhorrent and affirm that they voice the same solidarity that other groups are permitted to have without any protest or censorship. Would you reject an ad for the NAACP, a pro-Black organization?

With all of that said, I understand your predicament, I have no idea who has complained about our ad but I know the score when it comes to entities like your paper having protected groups complaining about stuff, it can cause bad consequences for you. This all goes a long way to prove what we assert, that White people are viewed as a second class people that are forbidden to stand for their collective interests. I am not sure about the legality of this as the school is a public institution, but honestly we have too many people out there that are receptive to our message right now and who are more sympathetic to our message than ever before and I would rather spend my time making inroads with them than going to court on something silly like this. I also found your staff I interacted with before this message as very kind and wish you no ill will, I understand what you are up against.

Just so I can be certain I wanted to clarify what you told me.Technically I still owe you for the second ad that ran, but you wrote that you want no further payments. I mean you did run the ad for us and I feel forelorn by not paying for it, but if this is what you insist then I won't argue about that.

Also, I would truly like to know who made the complaints that lead to having our ads pulled. I respectably make the challenge to anyone who thinks that we have not the right to run an ad, like anyone else, meant to simply make it known who we are and what our message is to a public debate on any issue within our purview. If these people think we don't have the right to place an ad like anyone else and think we don't have the right to reach out to people who might be receptive, then let them engage us in a debate on this. I am not afraid to engage anyone on the other side of the spectrum anywhere and at any time. Through experience I have learned that the other side likes to avoid debate and work behind the scenes to censor our message. This is an obvious show of weakness, those who have no truth or facts to stand on look to squash any dissent or debate.

Again we have no ill will toward your paper, it is unfortunate that the forces that would deprive the ethnic majority of the same sense of pride and identity that all other groups are allowed to have, have the power to intimidate the way that they do as to force you to reject a paying customer.

Thanks and I would appreciate some affirmation on the payment query and if you can give me any insight on who complained about our ad (and who might be responsible for the hi-jinks relative to our site) it would be appreciated. The challenge for a debate on any issue within our program and ideology is also open to anyone on that campus, especially those who worked in a cowardly way, behind the scenes, to thwart our efforts.

No hard feelings,
Robert Ransdell
