By Jim Ring -- For decades, Alan S. Blinder (illustration), a Princeton University economist and former Federal Reserve Board Vice Chairman touted, along with most economists, the blessings of Free Trade. It was argued that it would enrich America despite the harm it does to its workers. Thus far, Free Trade has seriously harmed our once great manufacturing sector.

But today, Mr. Blinder has changed his tune saying that the downside is much greater than previously imagined. Now he is saying that a new industrial revolution—communication technology that allows services to be delivered from afar—will put up to as many as 40 million Americans' jobs at risk of being shipped out of our country in the next ten to twenty years. That is more than double the amount of workers employed in our manufacturing sector.

Mr. Blinder says that that is "just the tip of a very big iceberg", as public skepticism continues to grow about allowing an uncontrolled flow of foreign goods, services, money and people across our borders and shores.

After all these years, Mr. Blinder now wonders whether allowing English speaking workers in India to do the jobs of Americans at low wages is really a good thing in hindsight. In January 2005, he warned Congress that "tens of millions of additional American workers will start to experience an element of job insecurity that has heretofore been reserved for the manufacturing workers".

He goes on, "The cheap and easy flow of information around the globe…will require vast and unsettling adjustments in the way Americans and residents of other developed countries work, live and educate their children."

In his report at that time he estimated that between 42 and 56 million American jobs have potential to be sent offshore. Since then he has done much painstaking research using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to identify how likely over 817 various occupations may be sent overseas. From this, his latest estimate is still a shocking 30 to 40 million jobs that are vulnerable.

He argues that the most important divide is not, as commonly assumed, between jobs that require a lot of education and those that don't.   It is no longer that skilled jobs stay in America and lesser skilled ones go to India and China. The important distinction is between services that must be done in the U.S. and those that can, or can be in the near future, delivered electronically with little impact upon quality. A couple of examples of this kind of work might be the services done say by tax lawyers or computer engineers for instance.

Mr. Blinder says that getting a college diploma is no longer the ticket to a safe and good job. The key, he says is to look for jobs that cannot be easily delivered electronically from overseas.

To give a few more examples of highly vulnerable occupations that Mr. Blinder says could easily disappear from America are:

Computer Programmers with nearly 400,000 jobs at potential risk;

Data Entry Keyers with nearly 300,000 jobs at potential risk;

Medical Transcriptionists with nearly 100,000 jobs at potential risk;

Graphic Designers with 178,000 jobs at potential risk;

Book Keepers, Accounting and Auditing Clerks total 1,800,000 jobs at potential risk;

Financial Analysts with 180,000 jobs at potential risk.

Folks, the list go on and on. In the past, we've seen how our blue collar workers have taken the brunt of this insanity and our manufacturing sector shrinks away. Today, we see the coming disaster for white collar workers. But it is not too late to turn the tide to these evil machinations of raceless world finance capitalism –the New World Order.
